Port of Call
An intrepid traveller at heart I now find myself split living in Canada and Australia year round. With my first summer in Canada, nostalgia for Avalon swept over in the form of my obsession for Sydney’s ferries heightened by weekly visits to my family’s home in Port Dover, on the edge of great Lake Erie, near Niagara Falls.
‘Port of Call’ brings to life the majestic crafts residing on the respective bodies of water – the old fishing tugs of Dover that depart and return daily; the ferries that have transported us since colonisation.
With the collaboration of my artist sister Miranda, together we fossicked for marine ply board to paint on, were inspired by the original travel poster art works and style and peeled in laughter (bit like cockatoos), when inspired by each nations nuances from ‘green and gold’ to ‘canuck’!
The last six months have shown me ‘home is indeed where the heart is’ and by living in the moment, the simple pleasures of life and our surrounds inform us that beauty and grace surrounds if we open our eyes and see.
